WhatsApp’s new features

WhatsApp has been in the spotlight over the past few months due to their continuous effort to introduce innovative features to the once simple, messaging app. The latest of these features include:

  • WhatsApp status sharing directly to your Facebook story
  • Fingerprint authentication for an extra layer of security
  • Contact rankings to easily find your favourite contacts at the top of the app
  • Reduce battery consumption with the new dark mode feature
  • Easily add contacts to WhatsApp with a new QR mode

Some features have already been rolled out on the Android version of the app and are set to be released to the iOS version soon.

LinkedIn algorithm update

Back in October last year, LinkedIn revealed that most of the engagement on news feed posts was skewed towards the top 1% of power users on the platform. To even out the network, LinkedIn introduced ‘Creator-side optimisation’ which gave more attention to the users with smaller audiences.

In addition to this update in 2018, LinkedIn recently introduced another algorithm update that gives more weight to niche topics rather than trending topics to even the playing field.

Instagram officially launches the ‘Join Chat’ sticker

Earlier in the year we spoke about the ‘Join Chat’ sticker.

Now, Instagram have officially introduced and rolled out the ‘Join chat’ sticker for users to place on their stories. With the rise of dark social, statistics show that over 50% of Instagram users are using direct messaging for private sharing rather than engaging publicly (Social Media Today).

The new sticker option allows users to create a private chat group around specific stories.

Although this may favour users who prefer to engage privately, it could have negative effects for brands with smaller followings or non-engaged audiences. Let us know what you think below.
