Last week the clever folks at Instagram announced another two major updates that promises to help connect people to their community and the world: as it happens.
The changes center around the all-new Explore page, with trending Tags and Places, and a more powerful and robust search that makes it easier to find people, places, and tags.
Reimagined Explore
Instagram “completely reimagined” the Explore page to make discovery on Instagram immediate and super easy. The new Explore now surfaces trends as they emerge in real-time, connecting you to events and conversations close by and far away.
In addition, at the top of the Explore page, there is new curated collections that will be updated regularly, featuring interesting accounts and places. Curated collections for now is only available to the lucky ducks in the USA, but Instagram promises that it wont be long until we can benefit from the fine tuned experience too.
What it means for small business
Trending Tags & Places, means that you can now jump into conversations that your audience are having, in real time. Using some of the trending tags in your marketing / sales messages will mean that they have the chance of being featured (and found) in this section.
Improved Search
Places Search can now let you see almost any location on earth, from holiday spots and new restaurants to music festivals and fashion shows. The new Top Search also lets you search across people, places and tags all at once.
What it means for small business
The new Places Search packs a punch for businesses with physical locations. Geo-tag your posts to help your content be discovered. We’ll predict that geo locations will become just as important as hashtags in the effort to make your brand easier to find.
